How to Find a Rust Player by Steam ID or Profile Link
Where to find a player's Steam ID, what to do with a custom profile URL, and how to get from a Steam account to their Rust servers and play history.
Names in Rust change all the time, and dozens of players share the popular ones. A Steam account doesn't change, so it is the most reliable way to find the right person.
What a Steam ID looks like
The ID you need is the SteamID64: 17 digits that start with
7656119, for example 76561198000000000. It's permanent; the
player can change their name and their custom profile link, but not this number.
Where to find it
From the profile link
Open the player's Steam profile (in the Steam client: right-click on the page → Copy Page URL). The link comes in one of two forms:
steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198…: the digits at the end are the Steam ID.steamcommunity.com/id/somename: a custom link the player picked. It doesn't contain the ID, but RustFinder accepts it as it is and looks the ID up for you.
Your own Steam ID
In Steam, open Account Details: the Steam ID is shown under your account name.
From a teammate or a server admin
Server admins see Steam IDs of connected players. If someone has reported a player to an admin, that ID is usually the first thing they'll ask for.
Steam ID → the player's Rust history
In RustFinder you can paste a Steam ID, a /profiles/ link or a
custom /id/ link. There are two tabs:
- Steam: the Steam side of the account: name, online status, country, when the account was created, Rust combat stats (K/D, headshot rate, hours) and VAC or game bans. Account age and stats are available only for public profiles.
- BattleMetrics: their Rust play history: servers, sessions, total playtime, previous names and an activity heatmap.
Server trackers don't publish which Steam account a player record belongs to, so the BattleMetrics search goes by the player's current Steam name. If they use a different name in the game, search that name instead. Once a Steam account and a player record have been confirmed as the same person, the Steam ID takes you straight to the right profile.
Is it legit?
Everything here is public: Steam profiles are public unless the player hides them, and Rust servers publish who is online. RustFinder doesn't access anything private. A private Steam profile simply shows less: no account age and no combat stats.
Next step: once you have found the player, get an alert when they come online.
